Abstract : Pharmaceutical excipients now come in a wide range of hydrophobic and hydrophilic carriers that are used to create solid dispersions. The composition of sustained release solid dispersions and/or quick release solid dispersions depends on the nature of the carriers. The original carriers used were crystalline, nevertheless they were changed into amorphous form dispersions with improved characteristics. The earlier carriers mostly consisted of synthetic ones. The usage of synthetic carriers has recently been supplanted by a recent trend toward the use of biological carriers. This article gives an overview of the many hydrophilic carriers—synthetic, natural, semi-synthetic, and modified natural—that are utilized to create solid dispersions.
